About The Orpington

Introduced from England in the late 1800's, this breed became one of the most popular farm fowls in the country. They are large, majestic birds and have a quiet character. A good eating bird they are white skinned, plump, and juicy. Their heavy, thick feathers make them excellent winter layers, producing brown eggs right through cold weather. The females also make excellent mothers. The Females will start to lay between 5-6 monthes of age. The Males make a very good show bird but are even better for eating.
